Motiv8
Inspired by an article written by Errol Gerson.
Have you ever spent time to thing about the word motivate?
I bet you haven't thought about it as much as @errolgerson has. In his amazing @linkedin article called 'Motiv8' he breaks down the word in exacting detail - I definitely suggest reading the article.
Motivate can be broken down into eight letters, each letter links to an important aspect of motivation. Here's the breakdown:
M, stands for Mentor.
O, reminds us to Organise our Options.
T, stands for Truth.
I, stands for Inspiration.
V, stands for Validation.
A, stands for Acceptance.
T, stands for Transparency.
E, stands for Empathy.
Try reflecting on the previous day or week through the perspective of these tenets. Reflect on your choices and missed opportunities.
Errol suggests asking yourself "Have I earned one more tomorrow, by the work I did today?".
"Using this principle and expressing gratitude every morning and every evening of my life, has illuminated the path of happiness and effectiveness. Everything is a gift, you just don’t know it at the time."
Wow - what a powerful framework. I'll never look at the word motivate in the same way again.
