12 Rules for Life

Inspired by a graphic which I discovered on Pinterest, inspired by @jordan.b.peterson's book 12 Rules for Life.

How do you live a valuable life?

That's the question that has troubled philosophers since the beginning of time.

Everyone is different, everyone’s rules for life are different. We all have different goals and aspirations in life.

Strap yourself in ‘cause these notes are thick!
It took me several sessions of a couple of hours to condense each of these 12 principles into little boxed sections.

Apologies in advance for any legibility issues, but hopefully that encourages you to buy the book!

I will be posting the final 6 rules this Thursday, so stay tuned.

Here's a quick overview of all the rules:
1-Stand up straight, shoulders back.
2-Treat yourself like someone you're responsible for helping.
3-Befriend people who want the best for you.
4-Compare yourself to who you were yesterday - not someone else.
5-Don't let your children do anything that makes you dislike them.
6-Set your house in order, before criticising the world.
7-Purse what is meaningful.
8-Tell the truth.
9-Assume others know more than you.
10-Be precise in your speech.
11-Don't bother kids when skateboarding.
12-Always pet the cat!

In total, I think these notes took, 6-8 hours (not including reading). When I do a deep dive on heavy topics like this, I like to break them down into chunks.

This is so I can full absorb the topics and ideas, often this break will be for a day or two. Letting the ideas percolate in your mind ensures maximum retention.
